A visit to Uncle William's Animal Farm!

A visit to Uncle William's Animal Farm!

For this term's Learning Theme on Animals, we organized a learning trip to an animal farm for our playgroup students and their parents.

Uncle William, our very interesting farm tour guide, have an introduction to the animals on his farm.

He then brought us to the animals holding area and the children were given opportunities to feed the goat, rabbits, fishes and tortoises. The children were also given the chance to feel and touch the animals and even the frogs! The children loved the experience and enjoyed the activities thoroughly.

At the end of the tour, everyone went home with a complimentary packet of fresh eggs from the farm!

This visit opens many opportunities for learning and the children learnt as they experience the world around them. The parents who went on the trip were appreciative of the efforts taken by the teachers to organize the visit.

A visit from our friendly neighborhood Policemen Sep 2013

A visit from our friendly neighborhood Policemen

Happy Kids Playgroup received another visit, this time from the friendly policemen of the Serangoon Neighbourhood Police Centre, Ang Mo Kio Police Division.

Not only did the Policemen visit in their uniforms, they also arrived in their police car along with their equipments for fighting crime.

During the visit, the police shared information about crime prevention, such as learning to say "no" to strangers and not wearing expensive jewellery.

The students and parents were also shown the different  equipments used by police officers, such as baton and a walkie talkie. As part of the interactive session, students were given time to explore these devices and take photos with them.

After the talk, a Q&A session was held and prizes were given out to those who are able to answer the questions correctly.

Towards the end of the visit, the officers showed the children and their parents the Police Fast Response Car and explained the function of the car such as siren, light beacons, etc.

The curious kiddos got a chance to try out the equipment such as police vest, in car computer and explore the police car. In the police car, the officers briefed them on certain functions of the car such as the sirens. The students and their parents also received many photo opportunities with the anti riot shield, police car and with the policemen and policewoman themselves.

It was such an enriching and engaging experience for the little ones and also a great bonding session for the parents and our students.

Dentist Talk August 2013

Students from Happy Kids Playgroup, along with their parents, received a visit from Dentist Dr Tan Su Wee from The Dental Studio. Dr Tan gave an educational talk on how to care for their teeth and maintain good oral hygiene. During the talk, the students and parents learnt about good dental hygiene and ways to take care of their teeth. Dr Tan also shared a fun song (complete with actions!) on how to brush their teeth really nice and clean! By singing the song, the little ones remembered  the steps to brush their teeth properly when they wake up in the morning and before go to bed at night.

Dr Tan also demonstrated to parents and students on how to brush their teeth properly by using a huge toothbrush and a model of the human mouth and teeth. The students had lots of hands on fun exploring the different types of teeth and the different parts of the mouth.

Last but not least, everyone went home with a nice goodie bag! ;)

Supermarket visit

Students from Happy Kids Playgroup visited the nearby supermarket as part of their first Learning trip for this term.

During the visit, the students used their five senses - sight, sound, smell, touch and taste to explore the supermarket environment. This out of the classroom experience helps students to learn about the different shapes, sizes and colours of fruits, vegetables, and other things that they see such as milk and oranges.

The students were introduced to the colours & sizes (sight), texture (touch) and scents (smell) in a supermarket setting. They also learnt to name the different types of fruits that were on displa.

Despite their young age, we are happy that our students were able to follow simple instructions throughout the trip. Besides being able to identify the different items in the supermarket, students were able to see how a supermarket operates, from packing the supplies onto the shelves to paying for purchases at the cashier.

In all, it was an enjoyable day and everyone had an interesting group learning experience for everyone!
